January 15, 1898: “Copper Mine Discovered. Randsburg, Cal., – Jan. 15. It is reported that a remarkable copper mine has been discovered near Granite Wells, about twenty-six, miles east. The percentage of copper in this mine is so strong that old horse shoes, wagon tires or iron hoop bands, when cast in to, the water of the shaft, in a comparatively short, time are virtually transformed into copper. A syndicate of capitalists is now’ negotiating for the purchase of the property.” –The Evening Times
