Trona, Cal. 1912. This Was One Of The Stops On the Rinaldi & Clark Stage Line. -- Parker

The firm of Otto Rinaldi &  W. F. Clark provided both freighting and stage services from Johannesburg to Trona, Ballarat, Harrisburg, and Skidoo.  The firm started in 1910 and operated through 1915. They operated a stage between Johannesburg and Ballarat, and a large number or wagons and freighting outfits which also operated between Johannesburg and Skidoo, a distance of one hundred and ten miles covered by three trips each week.

Arondo is located in Bruce Canyon 11 miles north of Trona. “Fast Mail” is tied to the building that apparently served as a sun and wind shelter for those waiting for the stage. -- Parker

In addition they haul all the freight and supplies from Johannesburg to all points as far as Skidoo. In September of 1913 they were involved in the grading of the Trona Railroad bed.

The firm also had the freighting contract with the gypsite mine at Kane dry lake to haul supplies.  For awhile Rinaldi & Clark used three of the old Borax Wagons in they’re hauling business.  The largest wagon had tires that were seven inches wide and were six feet tall.  These wagons were sold to C. Grainge who was to use them hauling gypsum at Kane dry lake.

For this work they utilize about seventy-five head of horses and mules . Otto Rinaldi purchased the Nicholl’s ranch of three hundred and twenty acres in the Kelso canyon in the South Fork area near Weldon California.  Of this half-section he ha put forty-five acres under cultivation to alfalfa and beans.  He placed his brother in law R. J. Nieto, who had been driving the stage, in charge of the Ranch.  The Trona Railway which started operation in September of 1914 spelled and end to the stage operations out of Johannesburg.  4
