August 02, 1909: “Copper Near Randsburg H. Pigott, O. C. Liceit, William H. Schmidt and other Oil Center men have what they believe to be a valuable copper deposit In Copper Basin, eleven miles west of Randsburg. In addition to the copper ore, a silver and lead vein has been opened on the Castaway claims,
A cross-cut on one of the ledges shows a vein twenty-five feet in width, and there are several additional ledges that show well under the development work that has been done. Native copper has been discovered on the property and for the first time in that section of the country. The property is located on the new railroad and the company, which is an incorporated one, expects to undertake development work on an extensive scale within the next year.” –Los Angeles Herald
